For Christ.
For the Island.
For Christ
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians that some people were dividing into identity groups based on who they followed—some followed Paul, some Apollos and others Cephas. Paul countered that we are all God’s workers and all our gospel work is laid upon the same foundation of Christ, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one… we are God’s fellow workers.” Paul continued saying that different ministry work was actually a unified work since we are all building on the same foundation, “So no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” The GMA is unique because of its diversity consisting of different denominations and a variety of ethnic church groups. The GMA values the independent vision for gospel ministry that each individual church presents, but it also values our association as the place where the unity of God’s church can be displayed as co-laborers working for Christ together. (1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 3:5-9, Hebrews 12:14-15)
For The Island
Jeremiah told the people of Israel who were taken into Babylon as exiles to keep hold of their spiritual identity while living in the city of Babylon. And then he said this, “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” His challenge was to live in a way that wants the culture to thrive, because then you will benefit living there also. Within the GMA there is a desire to seek ways in which the churches of Guam can do this. How can we serve the island better together as an association of churches? Each year we revisit this challenge and offer ways for membership churches to participate in service for the island. (Jeremiah 29:4-12)
Events Sponsored & Organized by the GMA
Annual Pastor/Leadership Conference
The GMA sponsors and organizes an annual conference to encourage and build up Pastors and Church Leaders throughout the year. In 2022, Dr. Gary McIntosh (Adjunct Professor of Christian Ministry and Leadership at Talbot School of Theology) was on island to talk about the varied responses of churches during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as cultural challenges the church faces today. Dr. McIntosh was also brought out in 2023 to encourage Pastors in developing a mission and vision for their church. In 2024, Dr. Gary Comer (founder of Soul Whisperer Ministry, an organization dedicated to helping churches develop missionally) came out and did a 1-day seminar on evangelism, based on his book Soul Whisperer.
National Day of Prayer
The GMA has been organizing the National Day of Prayer on Guam for the past few years. In 2023, the National Day of Prayer took place at Life in The Son Christian Fellowship church, and in 2024 the event was held at Abundant Life Church.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
